Red, white and blue (and stars) signifies not only the American flag, but what types of color combinations Americans wear during American holidays. With an extra day off, for Memorial Day, people took to the streets to dress up and go out.

Ekene Ijeoma from New York said his fashion choice was decided by the jacket.

“I just really wanted to wear this jacket,” he said referring to the tropical bomber jacket he is wearing underneath his long, red, trench coat. His navy slacks, alongside his white T-shirt, give off a Memorial Day vibe, without it being intended.

A bright pink wig can be spotted at the top of the hill at Dolores Park, and that wig belongs to Stephanie Sevadjian, who is complementing her faux hairstyle with high, brown boots, a furry, long camel colored coat, and, well, with not much on underneath. Sevadjian and Tierny Plumb, were dancing around at home in their underwear, when Adeyemi Adekanei, a fellow friend, suggested that they should wear what they had on to the park.

“She was dancing around in the living room in her underwear and he suggested that we go out like that, and we just said ‘Let’s go to the park in just our underwear and long coats,’” said Sevadjian.

The inspiration behind the outfits of Jesse Sorin, Serene Gettler, Charley Alexander and Hope Gettler, may strike one as strange, but the outcome of each person’s ensemble worked surprisingly well, considering.

Alexander said, “excessive alcohol consumption” was the reason why the group looks the way that they do. Alexander is wearing a shirt, patchworked with the photo of  vintage-esque Cabbage Patch Dolls, that he himself made.

Both Gettler girls look festive in bright colors, patterns, and mostly denim, while Sorin rocks a new-age Patagonia jacket that resembles something that may have come out of the ’70s.

“It’s actually from one of their newer lines,” Sorin said.

Rebecca Dienner sported  a long, red coat, paired with a white collared shirt, blue jeans, and baby blue loafers. Her outfit was what you’d expect when thinking of Memorial Day attire, but in truth, “It’s freezing,” said Dienner.

Bridget Conboy, an employee of the Mission’s Commonwealth restaurant, said that Memorial Day is just a normal day at work for her; even though blue and white seems to be the theme in her lounge-y work attire.

“Well, these are just my work pants and my work shoes!” said Conboy, while on her way to make it on time to her shift.
