Abe Fetterman demonstrates cooking with a Nomiku, the immersion circulator cooker he invented. Fetterman first built the device as a way to impress Lisa, his girlfriend at the time.

When Abe Fetterman built his girlfriend Lisa an immersion circulator cooker, he had no idea what he was getting into.

His gift sparked Nomiku, a Mission District-based tech company that’s raised over half a million dollars from Kickstarter. The company has sold almost 15,000 devices—which allow home chefs to cook vacuum sealed food at a precise temperature—to customers across the world.

Along the way, Lisa and Abe got married and had a baby. The story of their business is also the story of their courtship. You can hear that story below.
