A cyclist that was struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon on the corner of 14th and Folsom died from his wounds in the hospital Tuesday. The Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as 66-year-old Mission District resident Charles Vinson. The Chronicle has more details:
Charles Vinson, 66, of San Francisco, was riding east on 14th Street around 12:30 p.m. when he was struck by a white 4-door sedan heading north on Folsom Street, said Officer Grace Gatpandan, a police spokeswoman.
Deputies from the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department, who were just a couple of blocks away, arrived on the scene first and found a woman giving chest compressions to Vinson.
The deputies took over and administered CPR until medics arrived. Vinson, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Gatpandan said, and died later Monday.
The driver, who was not identified, stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. Drugs and alcohol did not appear to have been a factor, Gatpandan said. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
