It is 9:30 a.m. but these photos were taken earlier this morning. It is now 54˚ and expected to rise to 67˚. Details for the next ten days here.

Today’s Block: Fair Oaks to Guerrero, 25th to 26th Streets.

This little corner of the Mission offered up a quiet morning this Sunday. I grabbed my coffee and my camera and made a couple laps around the block between 7:30-8:30am, and didn’t see a soul other than one person walking a dog. It was just me and a handful of birds, chattering away. Maybe everyone had a festive Saturday night, or maybe they’re saving up for the Super Bowl later today. Either way, it’s always interesting to see (and hear) how quiet this neighborhood can be.

With the light good early on, so much the better to sign on to document your block. Don’t wait! Let us know what day and block you would like at info@missionlocal.com.

You can see a map of all of the blocks here. The blocks in grey are being saved for others who have signed up. Let us save a block for you as well.

Although technically this is from the Dolores block, my deck overlooks this week's Fair Oaks block, so I figured I'd capture the sunrise over the neighborhood. It was a beauty! Photo by Cara Whitehill

This city is always full of surprises. I didn't realize there were two churches in the same block: Holy Innocents Episcopal and First Samoan Congregational. That may explain the symphony of church bells we hear drift up across our aforementioned deck each Sunday morning. Photo by Cara Whitehill
