the corner of 16th and mission is the nexus of drugs, thugs, and addicts. it has nothing to do with gangs. this was most likely a fight over money i.e. someone felt they were owed or someone was getting robbed. also the thugs from all over the bay area come into the mission via bart to rob or sell drugs cause they know the police for the most part will look the other way. the SRO’s are also part of the problem cause the criminals use them as a refuge, or base for operating their “trade”.
The Mission is a Latin gang controlled neighborhood. It is dangerous and it has always been dangerous. Now clueless white 20 somethings FOR THE FIRST TIME are their targets (for the past 30 years it used to be only withing the gang and within that community. It has changed. Don’t be out late at night drunk (or not) looking like a rich white techie. You are now the targets.
