It is 7 a.m., 56° and headed to 70°. Details for today and the next ten days are here.

Wandering around public infrastructure with a camera first thing in the morning felt a little clandestine and I earned myself a couple of funny looks (being brown doesn’t help). However, like most folks in the city, I’ve got a love-hate relationship with Muni and it was a delight to see it in an alternative setting. By the time I had gotten there, a large fraction of the buses had already left. Still—at least from where I was looking, it seems that Muni buses have as much trouble getting going first thing in the morning as everyone else.

The block: 17th to Mariposa, Bryant to Hampshire.

If you want to participate in documenting your block—or any block—for the Mission Wakes Up, send us an email at info@missionlocal.com. We would love to see how you experience the neighborhood in the early morning. You can see all the essays here.

And you can learn more about participating here.

  1. +1 on the Muni yard morning photo. It has both the look of in its own way a beautiful urban landscape and a picture that tells a story, Effect is heightened because of the contrast from the sad story also in this morning’s edition of an entire block of car windows broken.
