It is 7:30 a.m., 56° headed to 78°.Details for today and the next ten days are here.

Today’s Wake Up Mission! runs on Bartlett between 25th and 26th streets.

The street is named after Washington Allon Bartlett, the first alcalde (Mayor) of the American-era San Francisco (1846-1847). Some argue the street is named after Washington Montgomery Bartlett, the 20th mayor of the city.

The birds are chirping. Joe’s 5-minute drawing (sometimes it is drawing, sometimes it is text) that he changes almost daily says Focus. I walk this street every day, but I don’t always remember to look up: to see roofs, trees, sky. While taking pictures, I also realized I love doors.

If you want to participate in documenting your block – or any block – for the Mission Wakes Up, send us an email at We would love to see how you experience the neighborhood in the early morning. You can see all the essays here.

And you can learn more about participating here.
