Violent crime sent at least seven people to the hospital this weekend, according to a statement by San Francisco Police Department spokesperson, Officer Albie Esparza. At least one victim is in serious condition at San Francisco General Hospital.

Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at the corner of 24th and Valencia streets, neighbors found a man bleeding from the head. According to police reports, he was attacked by a woman and man “possibly with a hammer.” The man had serious injuries, with cuts above his eyebrow and puncture wounds to his chest and back. According to Esparza, paramedics took the man to  San Francisco General Hospital, where he is in life-threatening condition. (Update 2:51 p.m.: The victim’s condition has been updated to non-lifethreatening).

On Friday a little after 6 p.m., police received reports of a robbery with force somewhere in the Mission District. A suspect approached a 45-year-old man, punched him in the head until the man lost consciousness, and took his cell phone. When the man woke up, the suspect was gone. Paramedics took the man to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for his head wounds.

Early Saturday morning, a 29-year-old man walked out of a club near the corner of 19th and Mission, when four other men approached him and started hitting him repeatedly. The four attackers punched and kicked the man several times before fleeing the scene without taking any of his property. The man suffered bruising to his face and a chipped tooth and was treated at San Francisco General Hospital.

On 16th and Mission on Saturday at around 3:30 p.m., a conversation between a 19-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman turned violent. The man told the woman that she was playing her radio too loud, to which the woman responded by taking the man’s beer bottle and throwing it against the wall, according to police reports. The man then took the woman’s radio and smashed it against the ground. The woman then took out a knife and slashed the man’s face. He went to San Francisco General Hospital; she went into police custody.

At 5 a.m. Sunday, a 19-year-old woman was standing at the corner of 20th and South Van Ness when a Mercedes SUV pulled up to the corner. A man stepped out of the passenger side and demanded the woman hand over her money. When she refused and ran, the man followed her, brandishing a knife. He caught up with her and stabbed her multiple times. Once she was down, the man took her cell phone and ran back to the SUV, which sped off. The woman then went to San Francisco General Hospital and was treated for her injuries, which are reported to be non-life-threatening.

A robbery also occurred at 20th and Folsom streets. At 2:20 a.m. Monday, A 54-year-old man was outside his home when a man in his 20s attacked him and threw him to the ground. The younger man took the man’s wallet and fled. With scratched up arms and stomach pain, the older man went to the hospital.

Around the same time at 18th and Capp streets, a 40-year-old man and a 27-year-old man got into some sort of verbal argument that turned physical. At one point, the younger man removed his belt and began hitting the older man. Disturbed by the noise, neighbors called the police, who arrested the younger man for aggravated assault.

A hot prowl also unsettled the weekend of another Missionite near the corner of Valencia and Market Street. A 34-year-old woman woke up in her home early Saturday to find four people—one woman and three men—rummaging through her things. The suspects quickly vacated the property, but not before taking off with the woman’s wallet.

  1. I believe David Campos opposes surveillance Campos — not sure though. Campos? Any word from the Campos camp? Hello?

  2. Mission Police Station is at 17th and Valencia — not far from any of this. But they can’t seem to tamp it down.

  3. I think people who own property need to start putting up cameras and have signage indicating this somewhere on the street. ( ie this street has surveillance cameras ) since city won’t front the cost.

  4. It is a concern that the issue of serious violent crime doesn’t seem to be addressed by anyone in the mission. I wish some of the neighborhood groups would come up with some creative solutions to assist in addressing this problem.

  5. we need a lot more police in the mission. every time a crime happens and the criminal gets away with it, they and their friends are encouraged to continue, feeling safe in their activities. I would be happy to have more cameras on the streets, more police, more investigators, and many many more arrests.

  6. Paging Supervisor Campos…. Is Supervisor Campos available… ? More violence and robberies yet not a single action from our local representative. Good luck running for a state position. He’s been AWOL on basic Mission issues while pursuing more flashy initiatives that help a subset of Mission residents. Safe streets are a basic need of all people regardless of income.

  7. In the first 4 incidents, did the attacker know the victim? Can you start reporting if the victims were random or if the parties knew each other? These violent robberies are getting out of control, and happening daytime too.
