This gold Lamborghini can go for as much as $7.5 million. But this one is only gold-plated, so think more in the range of 300K. But, you get to see it on the street for free. Photo by Alison Le Roy

Recently, the gold Lamborghini Aventador seen in the Mission prompted people to quickly switch to camera mode on their phones to catch a glimpse of the gold-plated machine and show everyone on their feeds that they have spotted this exoticar.

It made the rounds on the streets and it made the rounds on social media.

I bet, however, you’ve walked by this golden Aventador on Capp St., more often than you think and your eye is just not trained to see it. Enjoy!

  1. A few weeks ago, I was walking past the Whole Foods in Noe Valley when I saw this parked on the street outside. I couldn’t believe my eyes–it looks like an insect that has been spray painted gold. This may well be the ugliest car I have seen in my life.

And before anyone can say I’m just jealous–if I had $300,000 to spend on a car–well, I wouldn’t spend $300,000 on a depreciating asset. But if I could afford a ridiculously expensive car, it would be a refurbished and well maintained classic. A Jaguar perhaps.

But props to the dealer who foisted this monstrosity on the owner. P.T. Barnum was right–and we are overrun with fools. But those of us who can take advantage of them, should!

  2. Probably can afford a $400,000 car because he has rent control. The landlord probably drives a Honda Civic and this guy lives like a king. Get rid of rent control
