Inside the Monk's Kettle, which is undergoing renovations.

After years of working to get permits to put a sidewalk patio on Albion Street, The Monk’s Kettle on 3141 16th Street has finally gotten them and will soon be ready to serve 20 people outside, “complete with awnings, lights and heat lamps,” according to its website.

The popular gastropub that opened in 2007 is also undergoing renovations inside their establishment.

“We’re going to have a bigger kitchen, two bathrooms and we’re also expanding the bar,” said Davey Kalbalchek, who has worked as a server and bar back for the past two years.

The expansion means that the staff will also grow, although for now most of the employees “took a vacation, but they are coming back,” said Kalbalchek, who was helping to take out debris during the remodeling.

As for Kalbalchek, he mentioned enjoying working at the gastropub that offers more than 240 types of beer. “It’s good beer, good people and good food.”

The remodeling is scheduled to finish on September 20th.
