The San Francisco Foundation announced its Community Leadership Award has been given to two individuals and two organizations—two of them in the Mission.
MEDA’s Executive Director Luis Granados was given the Robert C. Kirkwood Award for his outstanding community service, commitment and inspired leadership.
Granados’s work has focused on the creation of neighborhood centers that have an integration of services, such as Plaza Adelante on 19th and Mission streets. Plaza Adelante hosts MEDA, which offers an array of services to low- and moderate-income families to achieve their academic and financial goals.
The John R. May Award was given to the Mission Asset Fund, an organization that focuses on helping low- and moderate-income people improve their financial situation through credit-building initiatives without having an increasing debt. The Mission Asset Fund is located at 3269 Mission Street.
Granados was selected from a renowned group of 316 nominees for this ”Robert C. Kirkwood Award,” made to an individual in recognition of outstanding community service, commitment and inspired leadership.
States Granados of the honor: “I am deeply humbled by this award. I will accept this honor not just for myself, but also for the hard-working team at MEDA, including our staff, Board and volunteers, that helps our clients every day. With almost 5,100 clients served in 2013, MEDA’s impact on the Mission District, San Francisco and the entire Bay Area has grown exponentially, positively affecting lives. I respectfully and proudly accept this recognition on behalf of MEDA.” READ MORE.
