It’s no secret that San Francisco is a bit kooky, but the city’s “garage code” is just plain bizarre.

As reported today by The Chronicle, San Francisco has a law that prohibits people from using their garages for anything but automobiles. So that means bikes, bags and boxes are out of the question. This strange code was brought to light three months ago by San Francisco attorney Gary Rabkin, who commented on its “ridiculousness” on the website www.sanfranciscocode.org. The public attention then caught the eye of Supervisor Mark Farrell, who proposed a measure today to scrap the code along with other unnecessary laws.
