The New York Times has a piece on the front page today on climate change and the anger in the Philippines and elsewhere in the aftermath of the recent typhoon.
From the time a scientific consensus emerged that human activity was changing the climate, it has been understood that the nations that contributed least to the problem would be hurt the most.
The accompanying graphic shows the United States second to China in producing carbon dioxide emissions, but 12th in terms of emissions per capita.
Readers often want to know how to produce less so I went up on the city and county’s sfenvironment.org site to post a short note on what the experts recommend. Once there, I clicked on “what’s the number one thing I can do,” to be invited to go to a Climate Action page. It took some reading, but here is the short answer: get out of the car and encourage the city to use only energy efficient vehicles for public transport.
Here is an easier guide to get to from the California Environmental Protection Board.
