A Slice of Buenos Aires in the Mission from Mission Local on Vimeo.
On Wednesday nights the accordion-like sounds of the bandoneón, piano and violins can be heard on Florida Street as if it were San Telmo square in Buenos Aires. Peaking inside Café Florida between 19th and 20th Street, the Argentine music mixes with a common Argentine scene: people of all ages dressed to the nines, clasped in close embrace — floating across a dance floor. It’s a milonga — a tango dance party — filled with regulars and newcomers, ready to dance and transport themselves to the Río de la Plata for the evening.
The party is held every Wednesday from 9 p.m. to midnight. It costs $10.
Group classes are held from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. They cost $15 and include the milonga.
