It’s 7 a.m. and 58°. Today’s a good day to sleep in. Rain clouds are expected to hover over the district through the afternoon when they’ll be replaced by the good ol’ San Francisco fog. Chance of rain is 60 percent.

“Si se puede!” A new proposal that would extend due process to all San Franciscans, including non citizens, was the center of heated debate at City Hall this week. Mission District Board of Supervisor David Campos joined Sup. John Avalos to push for the piece of legislation in front of a full house on Tuesday.

City activists are gearing up for a lively discussion on the gentrification of the Mission Monday. The event comes as some in the community fight to keep out the high-end retailer Jack Spade from moving into the neighborhood. The meeting will be held Monday at the Center for Political Education 522 Valencia at 6 p.m.

While Jack Spade fights to move into the Mission, one tech startup is moving out. BitGym, a four-person software startup that transforms an ordinary cardio machine into a multiplayer fitness activity, gave up the city this week for Berkeley in search of lower rents.

Dorothy hopes to explore the complexity of such policies and their impact on the Mission through her political reporting.
