Readers, stay aware of your surroundings when you text in public. On Thursday, a man was struck on the head and robbed of his cell phone as he stood texting on the sidewalk along 20th Street near Illinois Street.

Three suspects, described as men between the ages of 20 and 30, approached the man at around 6:30 p.m., and one of the suspects hit the victim on the back of the head with his hand.

One of the suspects then attempted to take the victim’s phone. At first the victim held on to it, but let it go after the suspect hit him on the back of the head several more times.

The suspects then fled the scene. No arrests have been made.
