This year Halloween falls on a Wednesday, but that’s not stopping people from getting into the holiday spirit early. We’ve already spotted some costume-clad people around the neighborhood.
If you’re looking for Halloween events to check out this weekend, here are some suggestions.
Friday
Fresh Like Cadaver! A horror-themed live movie and comedy show in the spirit of Mystery Science Theater 3000, at the Cinecave “micro-theater” in the basement of Lost Weekend Video, 1034 Valencia St. Tickets are $10. The next show is tonight at 8 p.m. and features comedians O.J. Patterson and David Gborie. It’s followed by a live riffing of the movie “Warlock” by the comedy music duo Moore Devine. The bar will be serving up $2 Tecates and $3 glasses of wine all night long, with popcorn and candy.
Saturday
– Horrible costumes and scary balls hit the Mission for a Halloween Dodgeball Spooktacular at the Mission Recreation Center, 2450 Harrison St. The lights will be dimmed and glow sticks and glow tape will be handed out. One clothing item has to be white or neon. Tickets are $7.
– Party with Supervisor David Campos at the Hallow-Queen event at Esta Noche, 3079 16th St., from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a costume contest, a drag show, DJs and more!
– The Knockout (3223 Mission St.) presents SmithFits+ and a costume contest, starting at 9 p.m. For more information, click here.
If none of those events work for you, you can always treat yourself to watching the Giants play.

Don’t forget the annual Trick or Treat Street between 23rd and 24th. Haunted houses, scary decorations, a frightening amount of candy for everyone. Please come say hey with your niños.
I always enjoy Mission Local and read it several times each day so please forgive me for pointing out one thing that at first may seem trivial. This article is terrific (although you didn’t mention the wonderful parade of children on Mission Street on Haloween night). However, the one thing that bothers me is your description of David Campos. He is not a “gay leader.” Neither I nor anyone else in the gay community have ever elected “leaders.” I am sorry for nit-picking. Please know that I am not the only person who objects to this term. There are many ways in which he and others can be described, but the term “leader” is not one of them.
