22nd and York from Google Maps

One of three weekend shooting incidents in the Mission District turns out to have been an accident, police said.

As previously reported, a shooting occurred at 11:36 p.m. Saturday evening at 22nd and York streets.

A group of friends was sitting in a restaurant at 22nd and York streets when they saw a car pull up, police said. The diners ran outside to confront the driver and passengers.

At that point, a young man in his late teens took out a gun. It’s not clear what he was aiming at, but he shot himself in the finger, SFPD spokesman Sergeant Michael Andraychak said.

In response to this weekend’s shootings, police have increased patrols in the area.

For the past week, the police department has been working with the probation department and the gang task force on an operation in the neighborhood, Andraychak said.
