The San Francisco Board of Education approved layoff notices to 500 full-time district employees at it’s Tuesday meeting. This year the school board decided to spare teachers at 14 underperforming schools, including some in the Mission. A decision that the principal at John O’connel, Martin Gomez, is happy about.
Per the Examiner: “Gomez said his school would lose at least 16 percent of its staff if the layoffs went strictly by seniority. He estimated that the disruption could set O’Connell back three years.”
In previous years, the school district has avoided layoffs thanks to money that miraculously appears, however a law requires that notices have to be sent by March 15.
Serra Bowl Will Close
SF Bay got the scoop last night that Serra Bowl in Daly City is closing in April after 51 years. This comes at the same time when the city is going upscale with two bowling alleys — including one in the Mission.
