Have an idea for how the supervisorial districts in the Mission should be redrawn? You have a few more weeks to submit a proposed map to the city’s redistricting task force, which is taking public input on its working draft map. Proposed district maps need to be in by March 2. Those with ideas for all of San Francisco can submit citywide maps until March 29.
Redraw SF makes it easier — it’s an open-source mapping software that includes demographic data. Anybody can use it to redraw district lines and submit maps to the city.
The 2010 census showed that the city has added about 28,500 people since 2000, and now a task force is redrawing district boundaries to keep similar population sizes across the 11 districts. The Mission encompasses parts of districts 6, 8 and 9. Depending on how the new lines are drawn, a Mission resident could be put into a different district with a different representative on the Board of Supervisors.
In addition to allowing residents to submit map ideas, the task force is holding community meetings to collect public input. The District 6 and 9 meetings have already been held, but District 8’s will be at Everett Middle School on March 1.
