It is 7 a.m., 47° might be headed headed towards 53°. It was a little windy yesterday and it’s going to get more gusty today. Here is the complete forecast.

William Degrush of El Tecolote wrote a fascinating article about a youth organization’s research on the high density of tobacco outlets throughout the City. Here is what they found about the Mission:

“District 9, which includes the Mission, has 97 stores that sell tobacco, five of which do so exclusively. Surveys taken in the Mission also found that there is at least one tobacco store on every block of Mission Street between 16th and 24th streets.”

He then goes on to note that when compared with alcohol, “there is little regulation of tobacco retail.”

“There is a limit to the number of alcohol stores per area and business license fees are high, while there is no moratorium on tobacco stores in California, even though many more people die from tobacco use.” But similar moratoriums for alcohol are not very strong, as Mission Loc@l found out this year.

The San Francisco Mercury News points us to a show by TV personality Brian Copeland about depression.

“The 75-minute show opened last weekend and plays through March 24 at the Marsh in San Francisco. Through his interpretation of more than 20 characters, Copeland — who lives in San Leandro — walks his audience through shadowy places in his lifelong struggle with depression, mining humor from aspects that later struck him as amusing, such as debating how much he should spend on the gun.”

Stay warm out there.
