Forget the Oscars: last week the Mission’s Latin Business Network honored dozens of entrepreneurs and notable people in the Latino community.

The Latin Business Network is a 55-member strong, four-year-old business organization based in the Mission District. It holds an annual gala at La Corneta Taqueria to recognize community leaders and businesses.

This year the buzz centered on Eliana Lopez, Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi’s wife, who was recognized for co-producing the weekly radio show “Hecho in California.”

Lopez has a weekly show on 1010 AM in which she discusses a wide range of topics, including politics, education and domestic violence. Mirkarimi is currently fighting misdemeanor domestic violence charges.

We haven’t had the chance to listen to the show, but the vice president of the Latin Business Network, Jorge Garcias, tells us it’s quite good.

Also recognized were many of the people you read about here at Mission Loc@l, including Martha Sanchez of Casa Sanchez, Eric Arguello of the Lower 24th Street Merchants Association, Dairo Romero of the Mission Economic Development Agency, Juanita Martinez of the club TransLatinas, and District 9 Supervisor David Campos.

Mission Loc@l was also honored for our “bilingual news community leadership.”
