She worked behind the counter at a money transfer operation, taking cash, and then, police believe, she decided that some of that cash ought to be hers.

By Monday both the young woman and the 18-year-old man police believe to be her accomplice had been arrested.

The man allegedly entered Ria Money Transfer on Mission Street at 24th Street at 8 a.m. on Monday, his face masked, and demanded “a large sum of money,” according to police.

A knife he carried made the request a serious one, and he left with the money.

Police arrived on the scene and interviewed the employee, but discovered that some of her facts ran counter to what officers saw on the surveillance tape, said police spokesman Albie Esparza.

“After questioning the employee, it was determined that the victim and the suspect knew each other and were working together,” Esparza said.

An employee at the store declined to comment for this article, but staff at two other businesses in the area confirmed that the incident had occurred at Ria Money Transfer.

“They were just kids,” said a man who declined to be identified.

Both suspects were arrested and the money was recovered.
