Good morning, Mission. It is 47°, headed toward 68°. The first week of the year is going to be fairly nice, meaning no rain but kind of cold.

Historic Preservation Backlash in the Mission?

The Bay Citizen notes that a group of neighbors in Duboce Triangle is opposing the Planning Department’s proposal to name their neighborhood a historical landmark district. This, property owners say, would make it harder for them to obtain building permits, because the Planning Department would have the authority to reject changes that would jeopardize a building’s integrity.

Preservationists have identified other potential historical districts, including some in the Mission, the Bay Citizen notes. This could mean yet another backlash. From the article:

“For some historic building buffs, however, the Duboce Park backlash raises the question: If city preservationists cannot obtain support for preserving a pristine cluster of Victorian houses, will they be able to proceed with seemingly more controversial plans to keep development out of dormant industrial zones?”

A Google Tour of Sorts

If you’re like me, you’re probably curious about the kinds of perks they have over at Google. SF Citizen has some photos detailing Google’s largesse. The company even has a $700, made-in-Japan toilet with 20 operational buttons. Behold.

Happy Sunday.
