Tuesday at 6:16 p.m., a time of day when many are heading home along 24th Street, two men in their early 20s jumped a 27-year-old man near Cypress, an alleyway where a new mural is going up.

The force knocked the victim to the ground and the suspects relieved him of his wallet, cash and an ID card, police reported.

It’s not clear if witnesses were present to see the mugging.

  1. “relieved him of his wallet…”??? They forcefully stole his property and your description is insulting. Robbery isn’t cute.

    1. Carbondiaz: Yes, you are right. What struck us about this mugging is that no one apparently stopped, yet it happened at a time when there are loads of people walking by that intersection. So was the robbery so stealth that no one stopped? I had hoped for a conversation about that, but maybe the tone was an error. Robbery is violent and no, it isn’t cute so how does a robbery take place on a crowded street without anyone stopping? Best, Lydia

  2. how do people get away with mugging in the middle of rush hour? i don’t get it.

i walk by that intersection every day (i think i must have been there within 10 minutes of the mugging yesterday) and i don’t see how anyone could ever get mugged with so much foot traffic there.

    1. Mainly because the 99% of the Mission residents DON’T want to get involved, I caught a guy breaking into a car on Harrison and 23rd, what did it get me? Punched in the the head and a death threat from him and his girlfriend. The police eventually caught him as I took a picture of him coming out of the car. He went to jail for a few weeks and got out. Now I see him every week often across the street from my house. What can I do about it? Nothing. I often see high school kids from O’Connell tagging buildings in broad daylight. People just don’t care anymore.
