Every Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m., the Free Farm Stand dishes up free produce and bread from local farmers markets over at Parque Ninos Unidos on 23rd Street and Treat Avenue. To beat the lines, come early.
Come for the massive variety of fruits and vegetables available for the picking. Leave with a belly full of delicious hummus, made by Michael Fong, a volunteer at the stand. The tasty, creamy spread is a recipe he has been working on for five months, and it consists of roasted garlic and jalapeno, cilantro and lemon juice, among other ingredients.
“The more you make it, the more you perfect it,” Fong said. “I really enjoy it.”
