A man who told police that he was shot last night while walking down Mission Street between 18th and 19th was actually shot inside the Prita Hotel, witnesses told Mission Loc@l.
Residents and local shopkeepers heard a bang, then saw the victim exit the hotel and collapse on his knees in front of a crowd waiting to get into Mission Chinese Food. One resident described seeing another man, who was carrying a rifle, inside the hotel at around the same time, but declined to speculate as to the man’s identity. “I just closed my door,” he said.
The 48-year-old victim told police that he was walking south on Mission Street at around 9:45 p.m. when he was shot by an unknown assailant. An ambulance picked him up shortly after he collapsed and took him to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the hip. The injury was not life-threatening.
It’s not clear whether either the victim or the suspect are residents of the hotel.
After the shooting, witnesses described seeing more than 20 police officers at the hotel, some with arms drawn. The police appeared to be reviewing video footage from the security cameras.
The Prita Hotel is no stranger to violent incidents. Luis Montoya was found dead near the third-story stairwell of the Prita on May 26, 2010. He had prior conflicts with his alleged killer, Roger Pacheco-Paz.
Management at the hotel declined to comment on the incident. No information about any suspects has been released.

12 years later: Toxic, harmful, air quality. “Don’t get infections” written on room 28’s wall. I’m scared for my health to sleep here. I came back to the front desk five minutes later and couldn’t get a refund. $80 down the drain
I don’t know about SOMA (6th and Market, etc) but if the city would clean up the act of these hotels/sro’s here our neighborhood would bestow a much greater appeal to visitors.
