My feet in the relaxing lavender soak

It was one of those days that knotted me up and made me cranky.  We’ve all been there, feeling like crap for no good reason.  Then I remembered that Relaxed Feet Massage had a new location on 1493 Valencia at 26 th. Street.  The answer to my frump was right around the corner.

Relaxed Feet Massage has 6 other locations.  I had visited the Noriega location but that’s too far from the mission especially when your undies are in a bunch.  I called, made a reservation, and my wife and I set off for a rendezvous with relief.

The best description of the place is “Relaxing massage with a focus on feet”.  If you are looking for a therapeutic technical massage this probably isn’t going to fill the bill.  However, if you want a one hour massage that is an exceptional value Relaxed Feet is for you.  We bought $100 worth of “Gift Cards” two of which we used.  Five tickets for $100 means the massage cost $20.  I gave my practitioner a $5 tip.

The interior decor is tranquil and softly lit.  The receptionist is reminiscent of a Doctor’s Office.  But, the cute colored parasols hanging from the ceiling and the Hello Kitty Cute heart cut in the paper surrounding the hole where you place your face softened the edge.  The Semi-Private Massage area is clean and as you would expect new.  Tranquil chinese music played softly in the background.  I even heard some Steven Foster in the mix… really.  The 5:30 Valencia street sound was subtly audible which deflated the vibe a bit.  All in all a relaxing ambience. So we got the Relaxed part of the name covered.  How about the feet?

I had a choice of many different infused waters in which to soak my feed.  I picked lavender, one of the more expensive.  Since, I was using one of my “Gift Cards” there was no difference in cost.  I liked the fact that the charming wooden bucket was had a plastic liner.  While I soaked my feet in the warm water, my practitioner began massaging at the top of my head.  Then my neck, shoulders, and arms were stretched and massaged.  I was feeling better already.  My feet were extracted from the water and dried with a kind of scratchy towel.  The bucket was removed and the chair was reclined.  My feet were now the target of massage.

First, to my appreciation, he put on surgical gloves.  I liked the fact that what ever was happening with my feet had to do with my feet if you get my drift.  Different creams were used to rub and relax my feet.  The more direct foot massage was slightly intense but nowhere near what I have experienced in Asia.  That experience was brutal but I think I felt good afterwards.  After the foot massage I was instructed to flip over and place my face in the doily with a heart shaped hole.

What followed was a fairly standard back and leg massage.  The procedure was a nice combination of stretching and kneading.

As I slipped my shoes on I thought; relax – check, Feet- yep, and Massage – a great value
