The new park playground will feature multiple trees, a wind sculpture, “Age-appropriate play areas” and an Aztec temple-like play structure. It’s scheduled to open next spring.

Get ready for a summer with half a fruit shelf, no swings and a whole lotta chain-link. Mission Local stopped by and surveyed the damage.

The view from the park: scenic vista, Mission High, dirt pile, porta potty.
Fences where the slackliners once gambled and roamed.
On the left, former palm tree. When it went down, it was “like a scene from Avatar” wrote Dolores Park Works. There will be new trees, eventually.
The (less popular) half of the fruit shelf has been fenced off.
As the sun set, the usual crew of irregulars were scattered around – people walking dogs, couples making out, teenagers sharing an enormous bag of salami.
The banner advertising the new park has already been tagged.
But in the meantime, we wait. And those who want to (safely) punch each other in the face still have a good 3/4ths of the park to enjoy.
