It’s 6:13 a.m., 53° and heading for 73°. SUN, and lots of it. Details are here.

Other than the protest last night, in which our reporter, Octavio, nearly got hit in the head with a hammer (he was taking photos, the hammer was flying through the air toward the door of the police station, they missed each other, it’s all OK), the news is going to be very tame. Pleasantly so.

Anna Conda is now on the Entertainment Commission, which should be good news for anyone who likes to go out at night.

In the romance department: New York is holding a lottery for those who want to be the first gay couples to be legally married there. New York promises to make it special, not like going to the DMV. (P.S.: As a resident of the Pacific seaboard, I feel obligated to say that our weddings at City Hall were, and will always be, more romantic. Infinitely so.)

And Obama backs the repeal of DOMA.

Finally, in your litter department: Did you know that Philip Morris sued the city over a 20 cents-per-pack cigarette tax levied as a way to pay for cleaning up all the cigarette butts on city sidewalks? Well, they lost. They can still appeal, but they did lose this, the first round.
