A 42-year-old man said no to an offer of sex at 2:30 Sunday morning and ended up paying for it just the same, according to police.

Two female suspects who made the proposition on the 100 block of Valencia Street stole the victim’s wallet after he turned down their proposal and are still at large.

The victim told police that he chased the women as they fled on foot and they jumped into a
minivan driven by a man in his late twenties.

When the victim approached the minivan, the third suspect drew a handgun while the women got into the van and all three drove off together.

To one employee at Black Heart Tattoo, located in the center of Valencia’s 100 block, the crime seemed commonplace for that part of the street.

“I see so much dumb shit go down through these windows everyday,” he said.

The employee called that area a “weird artery” between the Tenderloin and the Mission. He attributed much of the crime he sees to the types of people passing between the two neighborhoods.

The block is partially covered by an overpass and includes a bar, two medical marijuana dispensaries, an oriental massage parlor, two liquor stores and a motel.

While most of the businesses are closed by midnight, there are a few exceptions. The pizza parlor is open until 3 a.m., and the bar and one liquor store are open until 2 a.m.

Earlier on Friday night, a 28-year-old man was stabbed when three men
jumped him at the Muni stop on Mission and 24th Street around 11:30 p.m.

The suspects fled on foot in an unknown direction and are still at large.

When the victim discovered his back was bleeding, he walked to the hospital to receive
treatment, the police reported.

  1. Yeah I’ll bet there’s more to this story. I know this is a blog and therefore not subject to the rigors of true journalism, but the fact that there’s no discussion about how the man’s wallet came into the womens’ possession before they made for the co-conspirator in the van leads me to believe that this is a trick gone bad. Not substantially less criminal mind you but makes the victim a bit more complicit in his loss. Just sayin’. Blaming the liquor store(s), the pot dispensary(s) and the “Oriental” (Asian?) rub & tug is oversimplifying. Pot clubs are dangerous during the day on the 1st and the 15th, when robbers who prey on the clients lurk nearby, and when heavily-armed neighborhood drug dealers muster their proxies to score their merchandise. I’ve been in at least one of those liquor stores, and the selection of non-liqour items is pretty good. Matter of fact, businesses such as those are MORE likely to have cameras and DVRs oriented to the area in which the crime was committed. The public housing down the street attracts criminal activity (mostly from trespassers related to residents), as does the Travelodge across the street.
