Local photographer Hanna Quevedo Romero sent us some photos and video of a protest Thursday evening at Mission Police Station.

The group of what appeared to be 7 to 10 protestors chanted ” From LA to the Bay, Stop Violence! Stop Cops!” over and over, and handed out fliers that said they were protesting the shooting (by police) of Manuel Jaminez, an undocumented immigrant in the Westlake area of Los Angeles this past Sunday, the shooting (by police) of Francisco Moran in Modesto this Monday, and the shooting (by BART police) of Oscar Grant on New Year’s day 2009 at the Fruitvale BART station.

“We are here today to express outrage against police violence, and to celebrate and show solidarity for the ongoing rebellion in Los Angeles.” The flier continued, in English and Spanish, “Free the L.A. rebels and drop the charges against those who rose up against Oscar Grant’s murder in Oakland, CA.!!!!”

  1. mission district lemmings ?

seems like every time you dig in, a lot of the people involved in the protests in the Mission live elsewhere (especially the sit/lie folks)

  2. It seems that the story is that dead dude was; drunk, brandishing a knife, attacking a woman and various folks previous. The cops were called for a reason.

    Mission district lemmings.

  3. There’s some debate over how his name was spelled. I went with the story in the AP article that I linked to, which said:

“Neighbors and friends initially said Jaminez’s last name was spelled Jamines but on Thursday the coroner’s office said he went by the names Manuel Ramirez and Manuel Jaminez.”
