The DNA of the man who was shot after a three-day standoff with police on June 1 in Sacramento matched the DNA of the man who murdered Charles McAleer-Bonilla on 28th Street on April 8, police said today.

Anthony Alvarez was shot and killed by police officers on June 1 after holding his cousin’s one-year-old son hostage in an apartment for three days in Sacramento.

Because of San Francisco’s backlogged DNA lab, a match for the McAleer-Bonilla case was not found before Alvarez was allegedly able to commit more crimes. Alvarez was also tied to three bank robberies and the attempted murder of a Concord police officer, the SFPD said.

Police are continuing their investigations into the McAleer-Bonilla homicide case.
