Police arrested Christopher Grant after a fist fight just before midnight Tuesday in which a 46-year-old victim suffered life threatening injuries.
Grant, 33, remains in custody. He allegedly struck the victim just outside of the Hotel Royan at 405 Valencia Street.
Police said the victim was knocked unconscious after he lost his balance and hit his head on a water pipe attached to the building. Grant then allegedly struck the victim again with his fist and fled. The victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Officers later caught up with Grant on Albion Street, police said. Grant was arrested for a prior felony probation violation, as well as a no-bail warrant for assault with a deadly weapon, police said.
