A week ago about 100 protesters gathered in front of the U-Haul on Bryant and Alameda Streets and called for Manager Howard Maxwell to “get out.” Day laborers said he had unfairly administered a work list in which he favored some workers over others.
“The manager has made a commitment to not use the list,” said Renee Saucedo, a lawyer with the La Raza Centro Legal Day Labor Program.
In regards to the workers’ complaints of an increased police presence, Saucedo said the police have not bothered the workers since the protest. She added that she is unsure if the manager has stopped calling the police or if the police are not responding to his calls as they were before.
“The workers are happy with the changes,” said Saucedo.
