On Friday, July 24th , the SFPD command van was situated on Folsom Street at 21st.
Mission District Police Captain, Stephen Tacchini says the police van on the streets in the late afternoon and evening hours allows beat and bicycle officers to use it for report preparation, computer checks on subjects, and to discuss patrol strategies. In a community newsletter early this month Tacchini said,” I believe the command van presents an opportunity to enhance police-community relations by placing a concentration of officers in areas where they are easily accessible to speak with. I try to utilize foot patrol, bicycle, and plainclothes officers in conjunction with the command vehicle. When you see the officers riding or walking in your neighborhood, please say hello and feel free to speak with them about any concerns you have about crime, safety, traffic, or whatever you care to discuss.
High school students from around California worked with Mission Loc@l as guest reporters and asked residents what they think about the mobile command van in the Mission District.
