It’s 7 a.m. and 55º, headed to 71º. There will be more sun today.

A woman was not injured when she jumped in front of a BART train at the 24th and Mission BART station Monday night. She is being evaluated by a psychiatrist.

Nearly 4,000 people lost power in the Mission and Potrero Hill yesterday, but by afternoon power had been restored to most customers.

And ABC Local covers the controversy over the new artwork proposed for the 24th and Mission BART station. The project is controversial because the artists chosen by BART in the first round of the selection process were not from the Mission. Mission Local has been following the controversy.

Before crossing the Golden Gate Bridge from the suburbs, Jamie Goldberg was a softball player with a passion for sports reporting. Politics drive her crazy. But on trips down Mission streets, the ones that residents tell her need to be paved, she heads for the cure: “Dr. Loco" performances.

  1. I suppose it’s a matter of perspective. While many self-entitled people in the city with a few extra dollars to spend would like to see the city white-washed and gentrified (i.e. condo/apts/mixed use), there are still some of us who value diversity and feel that using local artists adds richness and can empower folk who might never get noticed. This, however, is really merely indicative of a more significant issue: further gentrification allows us to keep our heads in the sand, ignoring pressing social issues that we must otherwise not only face, but admit our own (however remote or implicit) share in creating.

  2. Looking at the so-called artwork in the Mission District, I can see why no Mission locals were selected during the 1st round. The murals are ugly, ridiculous; they only add to the blight. In the 2nd round, BART judges can pick their original choices. The district would be better served/greatly improved if developers were to build condos/apts/mixed use at the 16th & 24th St BART stations. No amount of artwork is going to help improve those areas.

    1. Murals are ugly, ridiculous, and add to blight? What are you talking about? I don’t understand why people want to come to the neighborhood and then sterilize it. If you like things shiny and sterile, move to the suburbs and leave us in our “blight”. Some of us like it like this–colorful and imperfect.
