A car crash on Friday morning sent a man to the hospital in critical condition after he hit the median going northbound on Guerrero Street between 21st and Liberty streets, crasghing into a pole, tree, building, and finally another car, according to video submitted to Mission Local anonymously
No other injuries were reported, and the crash only involved the one car.
“It does not look good, life-threatening injuries,” said Albie Esparza, a police spokesperson. “The driver struck the middle barricade and essentially flipped the car over onto the opposite side.”
Video shows the car destroying a light pole in the Guerrero Street median and then bouncing off a tree before swerving down the street, though the car never flips over.

Sergeant Mike Alexander, a detective with the Traffic Collision Investigation Unit who was at the scene of the wreck, said the car careened down the street and crashed into a light pole, a building, and then another car just south of Liberty Street.
Two wooden poles smashed the front window of the car on the driver’s side when the car hit a small tree in the median, and the front end of the car was folded up. Tree branches and shattered glass lined the street.
“He was injured pretty badly,” Alexander said.
Esparza said it was not known how the driver crashed into the median, but that an investigation was ongoing. The victim was being treated at San Francisco General Hospital. Traffic on Guerrero Street was closed from 20th to 21st streets in the morning.

@Jake thanks for your description. I think it’s important people know a play by play account of what exactly happened in these car crashes so people can learn from other people’s mistakes. aka learning the easy way and not the hard way.
I’m going to speculate wildly and say that the injured driver wasn’t cautiously puttering along at or under the speed limit. With that in mind, I’m very glad that he didn’t have any passengers with him and that he didn’t take out any pedestrians.
That is NOT what happened. The driver sped through a red light at 21st and Guerrero. A taxi was pulling out just a little further down and this driver swerved away from the taxi and lost control of his car. He went over the median, struck a light pole with the front driver’s side pillar which compromised the windshield and took out the light pole. On the other side of the light was a small newly planted tree with support poles that the car hit, and the poles pierced the compromised windshield. As the car continued over the median, the rear right side of the car struck a larger tree. The car then went onto the sidewalk and broad-sided the building on the corner, which ricocheted the car into a parked minivan.
This is the fifth accident like this in two years, although this is the worst. Drivers speed over the top of this blind hill all the time only to find slow moving traffic, stopped delivery trucks, Uber/Lyft/Taxi drivers stopped in the middle of the street, or what have you.
The median, which had been destroyed over the years due to reckless drivers, had just been re-planted less than two weeks ago.
I hope the driver lives, but I’m furious. He’s lucky no one was walking up the sidewalk, and that there was no on-coming traffic. It could have been a lot worse.
Hey Jake get your facts straight I was the driver of that vehicle and had a massive heart attack and passed out while driving Friday the 13th 2016 check the hospital records General Hospital San Francisco. .
