A 21-year-old man was arrested after attempting to rob a 38-year-old woman near 16th and Bryant streets early Wednesday morning. At 3:55 a.m., the man approached the woman with the intention of taking her phone, but the woman defended herself and a struggle ensued.

The suspect eventually overpowered the woman and, after snagging her phone, tried to take additional property from her, but was unsuccessful. He then fled the scene, but police officers who were notified of the robbery managed to locate the stolen phone through its internal tracking program, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

Minutes earlier, at 3:25 a.m., a witness notified a 69-year-old man who lives on Sycamore Street between 18th and 17th streets that a woman — described as being 5 feet, 3 inches tall — entered the man’s home. The man woke up to find his wallet and cash missing. The man had gone to sleep at 10 p.m. the night before, but woke to the knocks of his neighbor, who told him about the unidentified woman entering and exiting his home. Police have not made an arrest.
