The owner of the former Fizzary, now home to an illegal gambling den by night, tagged his own facade with graffiti reading “illegal club” on Sunday in a bid to draw attention to a “dangerous new problem” inside his space, reports Capp Street Crap.

Taylor Peck told Capp Street Crap that he was “in a really frustrating situation” regarding his former space at 2949 Mission St. between 25th and 26th because over the weekend people hooked up a gasoline generator after blowing out fuses in the building. When Peck, who lives in the back of the building according to a nearby employee, realized they were using a generator, he called the police, who alerted the fire department.

The employee of a nearby business told a similar tale but said the fire department showed up first but were not allowed into the building, at which point fire fighters called the police, who were told by those inside that they “needed a warrant.”

A nearby resident told Mission Local in October, shortly after a shooting that occurred at the site, that neighbors had made countless calls to police and to a non-emergency number, but the illicit business continued to operate.

“We were like, holy shit, they just don’t care,” the resident said. “At that point we started getting a little more antsy.”

He said police had been surveilling the location and that he saw one encounter between apparent operators of the gambling den and plainclothes police officers.

We’re hoping it’ll come to a head pretty soon,” he said at the time, though months have elapsed since then and it appears the illegal venue is still operating.

Capp Street Crap reports that the generator inside was eventually shut off, but that police told Peck they wouldn’t be able to ensure the tenants inside didn’t turn it on in the future, leading Peck to vandalize his own building in an “effort to get some attention.”

The spot was turned into an illegal gambling den early this year and was the site of a shooting in October, which Capp Street Crap also detailed in a post then.

    1. Such a hypocrite, you didn’t “witness” anything, you were doing. You were there drinking and gambling and then maybe ended your night with a bj before stumbling home.
