The corner of 24th and Bryant at the Galería de la Raza was crowded last Friday by visitors swaying to the rhythm of oldies and admiring some antique cars. They had come to celebrate the opening of the exhibit “The Q-Sides,” a reinvention of 12 album covers from a series of records entitled “East Side Stories” that merges low-rider and Chicano culture with members of the queer community, which had previously been excluded from that culture.

Mission Local chatted with some of those who came together to celebrate the artistic reimagination of some classic images. If you’d like to hear from the artists themselves, check out our radio interview with Vero Majano, Kari Orvik, and Amy Martinez (DJ Brown Amy).

On Saturday night, there will be more to celebrate in honor of SF Pride when the Galería unveils a new digital mural and then hosts a dance party from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m.
