An argument between two diners at a Mission District restaurant Wednesday led to a robbery of a prized musical instrument, according to San Francisco Police Department reports.

At around 10:40 p.m. in a restaurant on Mission Street near 16th, a 56-year-old violinist was dining with his instrument when he found himself in conversation with a woman in her 30s. The conversation escalated into an argument that had the woman storming out of the restaurant.

The woman shortly returned with two male companions to confront the violinist. She also had a can of pepper spray which she swiftly discharged into the violinist’s face. As the music man recoiled in pain, the woman and her companions grabbed the violin and fled the restaurant.

The violin thieves are still at large.

  1. Hmm, sounds like the whole thing was a set-up.

If some woman half your age comes across all friendly and interested, and it doesn’t ring right, then it probably isn’t right.

Although how would some street punks know that the violin was worth anything anyway?
