Intersection near vehicle collision that sent one woman to hospital with head trauma. Image from Google Street view.

In addition to the laundry list of crimes and injuries from last night’s Giants celebration, a vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon near the corner of 16th Street and Pond Street sent a pedestrian to the hospital in critical condition.

At 3:40 p.m., police report that the victim, who they describe as a 40-year-old woman, was walking on 16th Street when a vehicle backing out of drive way struck her. The woman fell to the ground and experienced serious head trauma. She’s been taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where police describe her condition as life-threatening.

The incident appears to be an accident. The driver of the vehicle, a 66-year-old man, didn’t see the woman as he backed out of his driveway. Police made no arrest.

We’ll add more details to this post as warranted.

  1. I back out of my garage at very slowly and carefully, and still stupid joggers will run in front of the moving car, even though it is already most of the way across the sidewalk and obviously in motion. And for some reason, many people who jaywalk always decide to run behind cars that are parallel parking. A lot of idiots out there. I still make sure not to hit them, but not everyone is as careful or alert as I am.

  2. The woman should have gotten out of the way. Cars don’t come out of no where. She was probably texting her friends about how cheap her rent is because of rent control.

  3. The police will not arrest and the DA will not prosecute. San Francisco drivers literally get away with murder.

  4. “didn’t see” is an admission of guilt. A driver has the responsibility to operate their vehicle safely. This was no “accident”, and the driver should lose his license immediately + criminal charges.
