According to Punxsutawney Phil, Pennsylvania’s famous groundhog, spring will be early this year. The marmot emerged from his burrow on Groundhog Day in front of thousands of people, but didn’t see his shadow. Marmot researchers, who use critters like Phil to gain insight into the social behavior of animals, had reason to celebrate yesterday.

Tomorrow is the big game, and the Chronicle has the latest on the team, stats and PR fumbles. According to the Washington Post, 111.3 million people watched the Super Bowl last year.
