In national news, Latina singer and performer Jenni Rivera is rumored to have died in a plane crash early Sunday morning. The 43-year-old star was traveling from the northern state of Monterrey to Toluca, near Mexico City, in the early hours of the morning. Her death has not been confirmed but authorities say there were no survivors.

Rivera was a strong female influence for banda music, breaking into a male-centric industry and breaking down barriers for other female artists.
