Should Kids Ride Muni for Free?

On Tuesday the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency punted on a proposal that would make Muni free for kids. Supervisors John Avalos, David Campos and Jane Kim are strong proponents of the proposal.

Per the SF Appeal: “All three supervisors stressed that the proposal is about more than just providing financial assistance to low-income youth, saying that it is the opportunity for the city to create the next generation of transit riders.”

It seems like this issue won’t go away just yet. Citizens and supervisors brought it up at a budget town hall in the Mission on Wednesday. We’ll keep you posted.

In other transit-related news:

Ellen Huet of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the pedestrian who was struck by a cyclist in the Castro District last week has died. The case was handed to the District Attorney to determine if charges will be filed.

Some think there is a double standard for bicyclists.

Be safe out there!
