Around 9 o’clock this morning, firefighters were called to 1257 South Van Ness, between 23rd and 24th streets — the scene of a fire that started last night.
The incident began around 8 p.m. on Friday, as a car fire in the home’s driveway. The flames then migrated to the exterior of the house, Mark Walker, the owner, told Mission Loc@l this morning after the fire had reignited.
Walker wasn’t at home when the fire started, but when he arrived on scene and saw the house in flames, he ran inside twice to rescue his two dogs.
“The first time I went upstairs, there was no smoke. The second time it was like an inferno,” said Walker.
The dogs are fine, and Walker’s children are staying at a friend’s house until the family is cleared to return. As of 10 a.m., Walker was not sure how extensive the damage was, but said he wasn’t too worried — he has good insurance coverage.
Friday night proved to be a busy one for public safety personnel, as there was a fatal shooting just a block away from the fire at around the same time.

Any info on what model car this was? I heard it was a Lexus, which is the same as my car – I’d like to know if this could happen to my family!
I’ve photographed what I believe are suspicious fires that I’ve noticed in my travels around San Francisco.

sorry – just saw the other article…… didn’t see it as a headliner so I missed it.
Mel,
Thanks for your comment. Just linked to the other article in case there are other readers who might have missed it.

Can Mission Local provide more details on this shooting please? “Friday night proved to be a busy one for public safety personnel, as there was a fatal shooting just a block away from the fire at around the same time.”
The vibe in this part of the neighborhood has felt a little sketchier over the past couple of weeks. Coincidence with the rerouting of buses to South Van Ness? There have been a few more incidents on the block this week than I’ve seen in a while……
