A makeshift memorial for a man who died earlier this week at the 24th Street BART plaza was filled with pictures, candles and balloons on Thursday night. By Saturday the memorial had been taken down, and all that remained was a small “Go Giants” sign. A police officer at 24th Street said that the man, who regularly hung out around the plaza, had been drinking when he fell, hitting his head on the concrete, and died.

Thursday night, people at the plaza said the man’s name was David Duran. Police have not released any information about the incident. If you know more about the man who passed away and what happened, please let us know.

  1. I’m sad to hear this news. David and I were fellow Mission High Alumni and football players for Mission. My heart goes out to the family. If I could share a little flash back for his son if he hasn’t heard it before. Mission High VS MacAteer High game your Dad and I were playing defense and just as the quarterback hiked the ball your Dad playing linebacker ran up the middle and took the ball right out of the quarterbacks hands and ran it for a touchdown. I can still remember it as though it were yesterday. I hope this brings a little happiness at this time of sorrow. God Bless!

  3. David was my cousin and…I Love You Bro..He was a good man. He lived life a little harder than most of us, but he had a heart of gold and a great personality to match. Without getting into too much detail, he did not die at the 24th St Bart Plaza. He died out on Bayshore Blvd sometime after catching a bus from the Mission Dist after supposedly being involved in a fight there. The incident is still under investigation so we don’t know all the details yet but if anyone has any information that they witnessed, we would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks. We love and miss you David, rest in peace, cuz…much love…cousin Dale

  6. I also heard from his friends at the corner, that he died from a fight. The guy was always blazed in a scary way, so the fight scenario sounds believable. He didn’t live a peaceful life, but I hope he’s found peace now.

  7. I don’t think he died at the 24th St. BART Plaza — that’s where he hung out, usually lit. But I heard he was beaten up, hit his head during the fight, went home, went to sleep and didn’t wake up.
