The second annual Haitian Dance, Music and Arts Festival was well underway this past weekend at the Mission Cultural Center. Friday kicked off the first event, Haiti in Music, featuring Haitian opera singer Fabienne Denis and several master drummers. On Saturday, Haiti in Dance was at Mission High School, and on Sunday ODC Dance Commons hosted Haitian dance and drumming courses.
An enthusiast for all things culture, Christy looks for journalistic inspiration in ethnic art galleries and in graffitied alleyways. When she’s not people watching at the BART stations, she’s deciphering Spanish on the streets, observing men’s fashion trends and watching the Burberry adorned break dancer on 24th street.
