Did you know that Jose Antonio Vargas (Pulitzer Prize-winning undocumented immigrant) and Phil Bronstein (executive editor at the Chronicle, who wrote a cranky editorial about having hired said undocumented immigrant as a young reporter) are having a public talk at the Commonwealth Club next Monday? This should be interesting.

Meanwhile, the Chronicle writes about the unsolved murder of Freddy Roberto Canul-Arguello, who worked at Pi Bar in the Mission.

And the battle over St. Luke’s Hospital continues, with Ed Lee asking CPMC, the nonprofit wing of the for-profit Sutter Health, to commit to keeping St. Luke’s open for 20 years. CPMC says no promises — but that it is rebuilding St. Luke’s at a cost of $250 million with plans to keep it open.
